Couples Counselling

In couples counselling, I support couples in building stronger, more fulfilling relationships. Navigating the complexities of partnership can be challenging, and I offer guidance and support in addressing a range of issues, including:

  • Communication difficulties

  • Conflict resolution

  • Intimacy and connection

  • Trust and infidelity

  • Life transitions

  • Relationship dissatisfaction

I utilise a collaborative and non-judgmental approach, creating a safe space for you and your partner to explore your concerns and develop effective strategies for positive change. My goal is to help you strengthen your bond, improve communication, and foster greater understanding and empathy within your relationship. I draw from the latest research, incorporating insights from Attachment Theory and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT).

What to expect in Couples Counselling?

Starting couples counselling can feel daunting, but it's a courageous step towards a stronger relationship. Many couples find that after a few sessions, they feel more comfortable with the process and understand how I work.

I'm trained in various therapeutic approaches to help couples navigate their challenges. My role is to remain unbiased, creating a balanced space for both partners to share, manage conflict constructively, and focus on the core issues affecting your relationship.

Preparing for Couples Counselling

Before your first appointment, you'll each receive a confidential questionnaire. This helps me understand your individual perspectives on the relationship, your hopes for counselling, and any contributing factors to your difficulties.

First Session

In our initial meeting, we'll discuss the ground rules for couples counselling, including confidentiality (and its limits, and what you can expect in our sessions. We'll then explore the issues that brought you to counselling, your relationship history, and what you hope to achieve.

The goal of the first session is for me to understand your relationship and your needs, while also creating a safe and comfortable space for open communication.

On Going Sessions

Subsequent sessions will be tailored to your specific needs and the issues we're addressing. The number of sessions varies depending on the complexity of your relationship, but many couples find between 15 and 35 sessions helpful.

Frequency of Sessions

To maximise the benefits of counselling, weekly or fortnightly sessions are recommended initially. This allows for consistent progress. Once you've reached a point of stability or improvement, we can discuss transitioning to monthly sessions if appropriate.

Private Health Insurance

My fee for a 60-minute session is $175. Both in-person and telehealth sessions are available. I am a registered provider, allowing you to claim rebates for couples sessions. I accept clients with coverage from The Australian Regional Health Group (ARHG), Medibank, AHM, BUPA, and HCF. Please check with your provider to confirm your eligibility and coverage.
